This week we shift gears in our series on the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Now that we’ve considered the sanctifying work of the Spirit in our personal lives, namely “growing in holiness”, we will now look at the sanctifying transformative work in the Church to “Grow the Kingdom of God.” Growing the Kingdom of God does not simply mean “numerical” growth, nor is that a first-fruits objective. Growing the Kingdom is one of speaking gospel transformation into the lives of others, changing the world around us, and pointing to Jesus Christ… recognizing there may be a net potential of numerical growth, as witnessed at Pentecost. Our first objective is always to make Jesus Christ known. That’s the Spirit’s objective and is our inherent calling as the Church.
