Baptism

The Christian Reformed Church practices infant baptism for children of believing parents. The CRC also practices adult baptism for people not previously baptized in a Christian church. The CRC baptizes by sprinkling water on the forehead of the person being baptized. In the Christian Reformed Church, baptism is performed by an ordained minister of the Word or commissioned pastor.

Infant Baptism

In the Christian Reformed Church, infant baptism is a sign and seal of God’s covenant promises. It demonstrates that salvation is initiated by God’s grace, not by anything we do. Through baptism, we acknowledge that children of believers are part of God’s covenant community and are set apart as His own. While baptism does not guarantee salvation, it points to the promise that they can grow to embrace Jesus Christ as their Savior through faith and the work of the Holy Spirit. It’s a call for parents and the church to nurture and guide children in faith.

Adult Baptism

In the Christian Reformed Church, adult baptism happens when someone who has not been previously baptized comes to faith in Jesus Christ and desires to publicly declare their commitment to Him. It is a sign and seal of God’s covenant promises, symbolizing the washing away of sin, new life in Christ, and the believer's inclusion in the church community. A Profession of Faith often accompanies Adult Baptism, as the individual expresses their trust in Christ and their intention to live as His disciple.
